St Jude’s boasts a small two-manual pipe organ, dedicated in 1957 to Mary Rosa Bollard, honorary organist in this church for 59 years. The organ was made by George Croft and Son, Avondale, especially for the church. The organist’s seat bears a bronze plaque bearing the words “In affectionate remembrance of Elsie Waygood one-time organist in this church the gift of her family”.
Current organists include Christine Russell, since 1967 (10 am service), and John Ripley (8 am service).
Congregational singing is accompanied at both Sunday morning services by the organ. Hymns are from “Hymns Ancient and Modern”, “New Harvest”, “Alleluia Aotearoa” and our own “St Jude’s Songbook”.
